The present era is the age of knowledge and knowledge society. Under the circumstances, librarians are managers, mediators, facilitators of knowledge and more. These roles call for new techniques and methods. Printed documents are evolving into digital contents. Fortunately, digital libraries with digital collection promise a plethora of possibilities in the collection, preservation, dissemination of human intellectual capital and culture. Librarians' job is no longer fixed on printed documents but a combination of print and digital materials. Again different sets of expertise are required for managing digital contents. The advent of ICT made a great impact on both the knowledge society and the librarians in the context of information availability, accessibility and the associated dilemma of providing the optimum service. Having felt the need to address the knowledge society and the role libraries and librarians are to play in such society, an international conference was organized and the proceedings are compiled in this book. The book also suggests librarians to exploit the ever progressing technologies that come with the concept of library 2.0. The chapters are divided into four parts and sub-themes – knowledge society, libraries, library professionals, and emerging trends.
